My daughter had a wonderful time. No complaints! She enjoyed the food, the sight-seeing in DC but the biggest highlight for her was the day at Kalahari.

The kids had a good time and enjoyed the experience

My son had an absolute amazing trip to Washington D.C. The charter bus was nice the hotel accommodations were clean and brbrakfast was good. He enjoyed the meals and snacks provided as well as game night and all the tourist attractions.

I’m sure this trip was an amazing experience for all the kids who were able to attend. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend this trip, and from my experience in reaching out for help with funding issues or cancellation issues, it just seems like a huge money grab. Yes it offers great opportunities for young, black students who can afford to go, but what about the kids who can’t? I learned about this trip later than most from some friends who suggested I should go. Initially, I wasn’t even going to try because I had randomly stopped being put on the schedule for my part-time job and had no way of making enough money to go. But then one of my friends told me about the fundraiser program they hosted for all the kids who may need help, and I thought I’d give it a try. It was going well at first, I was able to make 900 dollars in donations, as well as some extra money I made on the side to put towards the trip. That was a total of 1,070 dollars out of the 1,350 I needed. I was super close to reaching my goal and being able to attend the trip, but then they started slamming everyone who hasn’t covered their trip expenses with late fees. Yes I get that late fees help with money being paid on time and prevent a lot of issues, but for someone like me who learned of the trip later than most, I wasn’t able to make the money in that time. I’d understand a late fee of 100 dollars or something, but the extra 200+300 dollars that were added on top of that? It just seemed as if they’re trying to make it near impossible for kids who aren’t able to make enough money on time to go. This didn’t make sense to me at first because I thought they’d try to help their kids as much as possible, but after reaching out for help with cancellation, I understood that it’s really just a money grab. They offer 2 types of trip cancellation insurance at their meetings. One is their trip cancellation insurance, which cost an extra 100 dollars, but the other one is a third party insurance for just around 35 dollars. Clearly parents would choose the cheaper option if they offer the same benefits, which is what my mom did. The scam here is the way Legacy Youth has their booking page set up. If you make a certain amount of money through the fundraiser, they’ll subtract that amount of money from your total trip cost, but won’t place it on a receipt proving that money has been paid. The booking page also never updated my booking status after I cancelled my participation in the trip, meaning I had no proof of cancellation. Once I reached out to Ms. Crystal seeking help with this proof of cancellation and the payment receipt, she just brushed it off and told me “you chose to get the third party insurance, with the way our website is set up, we don’t do that.” Or something along those lines. She just wasn’t trying to help in the slightest and it seemed as if she, and the company, were trying to make it as hard as possible to get the money back. My mom and I both explained to her over the phone how we can’t get that money back unless we get proof of cancellation, as well as a receipt with the TOTAL amount of money paid towards the trip. The receipt that they give us only covers the amount that we personally paid, and not the money from donors. Even with this information, which I’m sure she has heard before, she hasn’t tried to help and basically told us we’re on our own since we didn’t purchase their insurance which was 65 dollars extra than the other. I don’t usually leave reviews and I hate to leave a negative one here, but I didn’t feel as if I was truly being heard or listened to over the phone requesting help, so I just had to leave my thoughts here.

My daughter had a wonderful time on the HBCU Tour. Legacy Youth travel was very organized and made sure that they got to experience and see so much while on the tour. The coordination of taking over 100 students on a college road tour is not an easy task but Legacy Youth Travel did everything they could to make it look easy. I would definitely recommend this tour to every student looking to consider going to an HBCU.
